I love that the two most common symbols of life after a storm are the cross and the American flag. They stand defiantly to say, we made it, we’re alive, we will rebuild, and this too shall pass.

All of the pictures and videos of this tragedy are all so sad. We hear people say that houses, cars, and other possessions can be replaced, and that the most important thing is that they survived the storm and are alive. While this is indeed true, there is another message that needs to be told. Insurance companies, state and federal governments or FEMA might give you monetary compensation to replace your property, but they can never make someone truly whole that has been through an event like this. Only Jesus has the power to heal you, to comfort you, and to restore you. The emotional devastation that the victims of these storms faced is far beyond what we humans can console. I know that those who know the Lord have already turned to Him continually, I pray that those who do not know Him will call upon Him for His healing salvation. This is what I hope we followers of Christ share with those affected.
