The fact that John Thweatt and I were losing weight and getting in shape at the same time was a great motivator for me. Almost every day he and I would text each other about our diet, exercise and weight loss. It also helped that several other people at CrossPoint were on a plan to lose weight and get in shape.
It is called accountability. Teammates keep each other in the game. A true teammate will challenge you when you need challenging, and will encourage you when you need encouraging. Plus, teammates create competition. Competition is always good when it leads to better health and fitness.
I would also recommend that you find people in your family who help you stay motivated. I was excited the first time I had to go out and purchase a new set of clothes because I had lost so much weight. What really motivated me was Vonda’s response to my weight loss. She’s been a great encouragement to me.
So, find a teammate. Look for someone who will exercise with you. Find someone who will get in the game with you. That accountability and competition will go a long way in helping you succeed.
