We Must Make Much of God

God wants us to make much of Him.  His Word teaches us repeatedly to glorify Him.  In Psalm 100, the psalmist writes,

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! 3 Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100

In this psalm we find several evidences for how we can make much of God.

I make much of God when I MAKE HIM KNOWN – 1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!

As God’s children, we are called to declare the greatness of God.  When we make a joyful noise to the Lord in all the earth, we are making His greatness and supremacy known to all those around us.  We are called to let the world know that our God reigns.  We make much of God when we make a joyful noise to Him.

I make much of God when I SERVE HIM WITH GLADNESS – 2 Serve the Lord with gladness!

Small is the person who thinks they were created to be served by God rather than to serve God.  God’s people glorify Him by serving Him.  One of the biggest ways to serve the God is by serving others.  I make much of God when I serve Him with gladness.

I make much of God when I WORSHIP HIM – Come into his presence with singing!

My children will tell you I love to worship.  I love to sing.  I love to sing and worship the Lord so much I will often make up my own words to my songs.  That’s okay.  We are called to come into God’s presence with singing.  We make much of God when we worship Him.

I must KNOW THAT HE IS GOD – 3 Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

To know that the Lord is God is the greatest knowledge a human can possess.  It is also the strongest force for obedience.  Our obedience grows deeper when we recognize we belong to Him.  We are His.  We are His people.  We are His sheep and He is our Shepherd.  God has not left us and gone away. He is watching over us every hour; even as shepherd guards his flock.  When you know who God is, you will make much of Him.

I make much of God WHEN I EXPRESS GRATITUDE AND PRAISE TO HIM – Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

The psalmist is now approaching the gates of the sanctuary, and he breaks out in gratitude and praise.  Why?  He breaks out in gratitude and praise because he knows of the Lord’s goodness, he knows of the Lord’s love and he knows of the Lord’s faithfulness.  God’s people make much of God when the give thanks to Him and praise His name for who He is.

I implore you today to make much of God.
