Robert Jeffress, in his book Grace Gone Wild makes this attention-grabbing observation about grace:
As one writer observed, for the past two thousand years, some have attempted to nail a sign to the cross that reads “Necessary, But Not Enough.” Their error is not in denying the necessity of Christ’s death but in denying its sufficiency to completely cover our sins. And so salvation becomes a joint project between God and us. God supplies the grace, we supply the ______________ (insert: baptism, church membership, tithing, keeping the Commandments, trying to be a good person, or whatever else you would like), and the result is eternal life.

BOOM! Short, sweet, & to the point!
The point I always make about this is that on the cross, He said “It is FINISHED”, not “Ok, I got you 49% of the way, the rest is up to you”!!!
All of Jeffress books are that way. It is a good read. I highly recommend it.
