I am having a ball studying and preaching the Fifth Gospel of the New Testament, The Acts of the Apostles. Just like every other book I have ever preached, I am learning more than I can possibly teach. For example, check out what caught my attention today.
Three times in the first five chapters Luke says three different groups of people were FILLED (bold & underline added for emphasis) with something:
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?” Acts 5:3
But the high priest rose up, and all who were with him (that is, the party of the Sadducees), and filled with jealousy… Acts 5:17
In my study notes I jotted down this question: what are you full of?
I cannot say this is the explicit teaching of these three verses, in their particular context. However, it is interesting to note that these three different groups were filled with three different things. And, from the context of each passage we can learn that whatever fills you will control you.
So, what are you filled with: the Holy Spirit, Satan or jealousy?
I know this, whatever you are full of will come out sooner or later.

Something to truly think about that I have never considered before. As always thanking for teaching and leading your sheep!
