I love it when CrossPoint catches another part of the vision the Lord has given us. For example, the Dwell Deep Bible Study Group led by Ben and Cindy Stuart kicked off their mission initiatives last Sunday. I asked Cindy to send me an email explaining what they did.
My brother and sister in law, Paul and Katie, are currently in Uganda adopting a baby and had just emailed out a list of items the orphanage needed. It just so happened (ha, right, God planned) that their travel plans to adopt were delayed and now overlap with a mission team that is leaving to head to Uganda on May 29th. They emailed out a list of items the orphanage needed to see if anyone could help!
I emailed Dwell Deep and we easily collected items to send over to the orphanage with the mission team.
Then I had the idea to get our kids involved and make Salvation Bracelets to send as well. All of the kids are into the loom bracelets and I thought it would be cool to send Salvation Bracelets just like the ones we all grew up making. We will include a card with the colors and meanings to hand out with each bracelet. My sister in law said to send 150-175 bracelets because school would be back in session and they would have to hand them out in the school as well as the orphanage. Wow! I was thinking around 50 bracelets, but 175 in a week could be a challenge! I wasn’t quite sure we could pull that off in such a short time. We emailed out to the Dwell Deep class and had several kids enthusiastically respond! Payne, my son, also totally jumped on board! He presented the idea in WWAM and Layne offered to let the Wednesday night kids bible study group make bracelets during part of their time. This past Sunday in Dwell Deep, Ben taught every adult in there how to make a bracelet on their 2 fingers, which was funny seeing all the men try to stretch these rubber bands on their fingers and several members completed a bracelet during class.
The response has been so great that we will send more than 175 bracelets to Uganda. I keep getting emails of more and more kids committing to make bracelets. CrossPoint has stepped up to the plate and I am excited to see where God is going to lead our church over the next year!
Missions is a huge passion of mine and I am excited to be at a church making this a BIG priority!
How is your Bible Study Group responding to missions for 2015?
