If you have been at CrossPoint for any lengthy of time you have noticed that it is my practice to preach through books of the Bible. I preach through books of the Bible for many reasons. Provided below are the six reasons I listed for you yesterday in the introduction to my message from 1 Peter 1:17-21.

#1 Preaching through a book of the Bible helps us learn the Bible.

#3 Preaching through a book of the Bible helps us see the full storyline of redemption in the Bible.

#3 Preaching through a book of the Bible helps us grow spiritually.

#4 Preaching through a book of the Bible helps us see the providence of God.

#5 Preaching through a book of the Bible helps us develop the spiritual fruit of patience, perseverance & endurance.

#6 Preaching through a book of the Bible helps us stay on message.

The last reason – to say on message – is the most important reason for me to preach through books of the Bible.

All preachers have a tendency to lean toward his preferred topics, subjects or passages. Preaching through the Bible protects the pastor and his people from making that mistake.

Staying on message also forces the preacher to deal with controversial, scandalous or boring parts of the Bible.

Staying on message is vital to the life and health of a congregation.
